Finland: Betolar has signed a cooperation agreement with concrete producer Consolis Parma to develop reduced-CO2 hollow concrete slabs. The development process will implement Betolar's Geoprime binder into Consolis Parma's concrete production. Consolis Parma is committed to halving its CO2 emissions between 2021 and 2035.
Consolis Parma's Technology Director Juha Rämö said “The use of alternative new binder combinations and additives that ensure the efficiency of the manufacturing process are key factors in achieving our climate goals. We are actively seeking new channels to address these challenges. The cooperation with Betolar is an important new partnership for us."
India: Three new Indian concrete companies have separately secured agreements for the use of Finland-based Betolar’s Geoprime alkali-activated slag and fly ash additive. Reuters News has reported that the companies are Balaiji Cement Products, Shiv Tiles and SNEH Precast. Engineering company Godrej & Boyce has also signed a letter of intent with the supplier for pilot production of concrete blocks, paving slabs and other elements.
Betolar expects producers to achieve global concrete production volumes of 250,000t/yr of concrete containing Geoprime by 2023.
UAE: Emirates Steel has signed a deal with Finland’s Ecofer for slag management services for 10 years from 2020. Ecofer will process slag from Emirates Steel's Abu Dhabi plant and sell it to the construction industry, according to the Khaleej Times newspaper. The steel producer has been recycling its Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) slag product since 2014, producing roughly 2.8Mt of EAF slag in this period.
"As one of the largest integrated manufacturers of finished steel products in the region, we produce 0.8Mt/yr of slag and we are committed to finding ways to mitigate our impact on the environment,” said Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Emirates Steel.
Ecofer arranged an agreement with Egypt’s Ezz Steel earlier in 2019. The latest deal with Emirates Steel continues its intent to build strategic partnerships in the Middle East.
