Al Kifah Ready Mix & Blocks updates on sustainable practices
11 September 2024Saudi Arabia: Al Kifah Ready Mix & Blocks has updated the market on its achievements in the sustainable concrete space in Saudi Arabia. The producer’s mixes include slag-based aggregates, as well as natural pozzolans and CO2 injected using equipment developed by Canada-based CarbonCure. Gulf Construction News has reported that the company's range of ultra-low CO2 ConGreen concrete products and BloGreen concrete blocks have supported projects including the Aramco Stadium project in Al Khobar, Qiddiya amusement park in Riyadh and King Salman Global Maritime Industries Complex in Jubail.

Harsco renews steel plant services contract in Bahrain
14 December 2017Bahrain: Harsco’s Metals & Minerals division has renewed a multi-year services contract with Sulb Company, a manufacturer of multi-sized angles and beams in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region. Harsco will provide slag management, raw material and finished product handling, and other services to Sulb’s fully integrated Al-Hidd plant. Harsco has provided onsite steel plant services to Sulb in Bahrain since 2012 for its direct reduced iron (DRI) plant, melt shop and rolling mills.

Sulb is a joint venture between Foulath and Japan-based Yamato Kogyo. Sulb has two industrial sites, one in Saudi Arabia and one in Bahrain. Sulb’s Bahrain-based facility, which is situated in Al-Hidd Industrial Area, consists of a DRI plant, a melt shop and a Heavy & Medium Section rolling mill.
National Industrialization Company to start commercial titanium slag production in first half of 2017
05 April 2016Saudi Arabia: The National Industrialization Company (Tasnee) plans to start commercial titanium slag production at its Ilmenite Smelter Project site in the Jazan Economic City in the first half of 2017. Commercial production will follow the project’s trial start-up in the second half of 2016. The announcement delays previous project dates due to the scale of the project and safety and quality issues.
Tasnee was unable to predict the impact the project will have upon its financial results due to the ‘current status of the titanium industry’. The project is a joint-venture between Tasnee and its subsidiary Cristal.
Saudi Arabia: The Chinese General Contractor Chengdu Design & Research Institute of Bldg Materials Industry Co Ltd in Chengdu has placed an order with Gebr. Pfeiffer SE for the supply of an MPS 3070 BC cement mill for Readymix in Saudi Arabia. The 1100kW drive power mill will grind 30t/hr of granulated blast-furnace slag and 46t/hr of Ordinary Portland Cement to a fineness of 4000cm²/g and 3600cm²/g, respectively. Delivery of the equipment is scheduled for 2015.
