India: Dalmia Cement (Bharat) has started using two electric trucks to transport slag as part of its E-Truck project. They are being used to transport slag from the Steel Authority of India Limited’s (SAIL) Rourkela plant to the cement producer’s plant at Rajgangpur. The company has also commissioned two charging stations at its Rajgangpur plant and three more are to be installed by March 2022. The E-Trucks initiative is intended to reduce Dalmia Cement Bharat’s carbon emissions from transportation and decrease its logistics costs. A further 20 electric trucks are intended to start use by the end of the 2022 financial year.
“Achieving environmental sustainability has always been a priority for us at Dalmia Cement Bharat from a business and a social standpoint. While we are grateful that our government is creating the right policy and investment environment that encourages organisations to take positive environmental action, as private organisations we need to take the lead,” said Mahendra Singhi, managing director and chief executive officer, Dalmia Cement Bharat. He added that the company was confident that it would able to achieve its sustainability goal of becoming carbon negative by 2040.
GM Iron & Steel Company reveals 0.4Mt/yr Dhenkanal slag cement grinding plant plans
03 September 2020India: GM Iron & Steel Company Limited has published plans for the construction of a 0.4Mt/yr slag cement grinding plant in Dhenkanal, Odisha. United News of India has reported that the plant is part of an upcoming construction materials complex, including a 46MW captive power plant, that will cost US$82.7m, according to the company.
Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited repairs blast furnace
04 December 2017India: Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited (NINL) is repairing its blast furnace at its 1.1Mt/yr integrated iron and steel plant at Kalinga Nagar in Odisha. The blow down process of the blast furnace, which had been commissioned in 2002, started in late November 2017, according to the Press Trust of India. The work is scheduled for completion by the end of February 2018. The unit produces granulated slag, as well as steel billets, pig iron, Low Ash Metallurgical (LAM) coke, nut coke, coke breeze, crude tar and ammonium sulphate.
India: Tata Steel has launched a new ground granulated blast furnace slag product in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Around 40 potential customers from the construction, ready-mix concrete and engineering sectors attended the launch event. Speakers at the event included Rashid Merchant from RMC India Readymix and PN OJha from the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCCBM). Other senior officials from Tata Steel were also in attendance.
