Tata Steel begins exporting Linz-Donawitz slag to Bangladesh
05 November 2021India: Tata Steel has begun the export of Linz-Donawitz (LD) slag from its steel production processes to Bangladesh. The United News of India has reported that a Bangladeshi cement producer has purchased the material for use in its cement production. China-based cement shipping company Cemcoa will deliver the slag.
Chief operating officer Subodh Pandey said that Tata Steel continually pursues operational and market-facing innovations by creating value out of its by-products, as part of its quest to a sustainable future. It has achieved 100% granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS), fly ash and LD slag recycling.
Bangladesh: Shah Cement has inaugurated the world’s largest vertical roller mill (VRM), supplied by Denmark’s FLSmidth, at its Muktarpur plant in Munshiganj. The mill is designed to produce Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Pozzolana Portland Cement (PPC), Portland Slag Cement (PSC) and slag cement types. It is producing PPC at a capacity of 500t/hr at 3500 Blaine with 15% slag.
The FLSmidth OK 81-6 Mill has an 8.1m grinding table and six grinding rollers powered by two 5.8MW FLSmidth MAAG Max Drive gear systems. FLSmidth says that the mill is the largest VRM ever to be installed in a cement plant in terms of dimension, operating capacity and installed power. In addition to the OK Mill, FLSmidth supplied the process and layout engineering, along with site advisory. The supporting equipment included FLSmidth Pfister weigh feeders, FLSmidth Airtech process bag filters, process fans and auxiliary equipment from raw material hopper discharge to process bag filter discharge. It was put in operation in September 2018
Shah Cement Industries is the largest cement producing plant in Bangladesh, with a capacity of 8.0Mt/yr. The company is part of the Abul Khair Group, the largest business conglomerate in Bangladesh. It produces three main cement products including CEM II – Portland Composite Cement and CEM –III Blast Furnace Cement. Both products use slag.
Confidence Cement to install slag dryer unit
06 November 2018Bangladesh: Confidence Cement plans to install a slag dryer unit at its plant in Madambibirhat, Bhatiary near Chittagong. The upgrade is intended to allow for uninterrupted production at its Unit-2 and Unit-3 lines, according to the Financial Express newspaper. The company also intends to demolish its 600t/day Unit-1 line due to high electricity costs and overall running costs.Confidence Cement to install slag dryer unit
MI Cement orders Loesche slag mill
13 June 2016Bangladesh: MI Cement Factory has ordered a slag grinding mill from Loesche for its Munshigonj cement plant. Blast furnace slag will be ground to a fineness of 4000cm²/g Blaine. A lead time of seven months after signing the contract is scheduled for the main components of the scope of supply. The gearbox is to be supplied to Bangladesh within nine months. Commissioning of the Loesche mill is scheduled for May 2017.
India: Close on the heels of despatching its first export consignment of steel to quake-hit Nepal on 30 July 2015, the Steel Authority of India's newly expanded and modernised IISCO Steel Plant at Burnpur has sent its first export consignment of granulated slag to Bhutan.
The consignment, which consisted of 4000t of slag produced from the plant's new blast furnace, will be utilised by cement plants in Bhutan, as well as by Indian cement producers ACC and Burnpur Cement. IISCO steel plant currently produces around 40,000t/month of granulated slag and has export orders lined up from other neighbouring countries like Nepal and Bangladesh. Preparation is ongoing for an export consignment of two rakes of granulated slag to customers in Nepal.
